Padder Tennis is fun

Our new padder tennis nets are so much fun. Tiana and Hayley challenged Cameron and Isaac to a fun game to try out the new nets. I wonder who won???
Our nets came from all of the money raised from our Fun Run.
We all agree that it was a great way to spend the money.

Speeches

Yay - I WON!!!!

Chris working hard on his great speech!

Speeches are so much fun and Christopher and Meila did theirs with style and pizazz! Chrsitopher came 2nd in our school competition and Meila came 1st which meant that Meila was off to the Inter School Competition.
We were very impressed with Meila's as were the Judges, because she came 2nd out of all the Year 7 and 8's in the Motueka area.
Well Done Meila - we are soooooooo proud of you!
Here are the winning speeches:

Christopher’s Speech

Mine!”
“No Mine!”
“mine”
“No Mine!”
“Mum, he’s not giving me my car”
“No it’s my car, you gave it to me.”“Well then who bought it? Me, so it should be mine!”
“But I gave you that $10 to buy it and you haven’t given me my money back and I want it back.”
“Would the both of you please stop fighting and go to your rooms. I’ve had enough already.”

Hi My name is Chris and my topic is on "I can’t possibly agree with my brother".
As you have heard that’s what happens most days around our house and guess what I still live in a house after 10 years of continuous fighting. I can’t think what made Mum keep him all of these years.
I just want to point some things out.
Number 1. I normally win!
Number 2. I normally win!
Number 3. I normally win!
And number 4 he normally cries and then he gets really angry and storms off. When I just want to push him to go agro I go “Shame you got I trouble! You got in trouble!” and then start to point at him and laugh.
Well we don’t need to go into details but he was an agro little boy on a rampage!
Now getting back to the point.
OK for an example when we go to a dairy and we have $5 to spend on lollies and I want a chocolate bar and it costs $5, but my brother wants a big lolly pop worth $5. I say if we get the chocolate bar we could break it in half and share it. But NO! I want the lolly pop and I’m getting it right now.
If someone could buy my brother I will pay top dollar, I mean top cent – any one 10 cents, going once, going twice, sold to that kid picking his nose.
But after a wee while I’ll get bored because I’ve got no one to pick on, I would get into lots of trouble because Mum has no one to yell at.
If you have a little brother would you sell him or keep him. If you sell him go to buy, sell or swap, you never know one minute you will have a little brother and the next you have swapped him for a cute little 2 year old sister!
In the end I would possibly keep my brother even though I can’t possible agree with him. I would keep him otherwise I would be bored all of the time.
OK I’m going to stop now because I have been talking for about 2 and a half minutes and that kid just picked his nose again!
Look there’s my brother over there – I’m going to tease him!!

And now Meila's Winning Speech
They may cook the food
They may do the house work
They may earn the money
But I
can’t possibly agree that my parents have any idea what’s going on.
Hi my name is Meila and I’m from Lower Moutere School
My parents think they know every thing but really they have no idea.
1) Like Homework right, every night your parents ask “have you done your homework dear?”
And you just say
“Yes Mother” because they never actually check, and how would they know what your homework is anyway?
When your parents are easily tricked like this it’s so easy to get out of the trouble you caused
2) Like when ya hassling your brother and sister, you know just generally annoying them for entertainment,
But then you go too far and they start crying and run off to mum and she comes roaring in like a crazy woman.
So you start crying to get out of trouble and say “Its all his fault, he started it” and she doesn’t know who started it and yells at both of you, then your brother or sister starts to cry even more which is even funnier.
I Mean how is she gonna know it was you that started it right.
But its not always your fault when you have to tell a little white lie to make life easier, some times its your parents being nosey!
3) For instance when your parents ask “who are you texting?” you don’t want your parents to know, so you come up with a random name like Sarah or Holly. As long as you don’t hesitate or say um, just out with that random name, they’ll never know.
4) Same thing on the internet “what you doing on there?” “oh um just playing online games, or downloading music.” When really you’re hacking into their trademe account and buying phone cards and expensive jewellery, How do they know anyway, most parents are like technological retards on the computer.
But sometimes you just can’t be bothered with what they have to say.
5) Like the times when Dad comes in and says “Have you seen The car keys?” and you can vaguely remember seeing them somewhere but cant be bothered looking or even thinking about it so you just say “nah” and carry on with whatever it was you were doing because how’s he going to know?

They may cook the food they may do the house work,
They may earn the money
But I can’t possibly agree that my parents have any idea what’s going on.

Aren't they GREAT? Well Done Chris and Meila! Fantastic work!

Technology Challenge

The challenge was to make Paper Jandals out of newspaper, cellotape and string. The team's model had to be able to walk and then run around the courts without the jandals coming off their feet.
The results were great. Once again Room 8 rose to the challenge and had fun doing it. Maybe we do have some designers in the making here after all!!!

Skiing

We are ready!
It's NOT FAIR!!!

We still look good even if we aren't up the mountain!

"Where's the snow?"

Thumbs down for not being able to go skiing!

Oh well no skiing but we can still have fun by DANCING in our ski gear!!!!

Skiing
Wednesday 3 September
We had been looking forward to this day for such a long time!
We were all hyped up and ready to go and guess what - it RAINED!!!
Mrs P said "Sorry Guys! Its a No Go!"
The following are what the children of Room 8 had to say about our skiing day:

I just got the text it say the mountain is open! I’m going skiing, I’m going!”
As you can tell I was really excited about going skiing, but when Mrs P said that the weather was too bad to go I felt bummed out because I had been waiting sooooooooooo long to go.
It turned out ok cos we had a dvd instead! Phew!
By Jaydene

I woke up at 5.45 thinking that we are going skiing. I had breakfast, rushed around getting my lunch ready. 10 seconds later I got a text to say it’s on! I was so happy.
When I got to school Mrs P said “Sorry but we have to pull the plug!”
I was not happy at all.
Hayden W

Being woken up by my Dad and my alarm clock pysched me up. I was tired getting everything ready for skiing and falling off the T Bar.
I got a text from Dorian “It’s on!”
I text Tyson, time to get to school, go to the hall and waited a few minutes when Mrs P pulled the plug.
I was guttered, angry. The weather just had to be bad! Today everyone was restless!
Aaron R

I was awoken at 5.21! SKIING SKIING!!!!! I could not stop thinking skiing!
6.15 Beep Beep my alarm. I start rushing around getting ready.
The phone rang “It’s on!”
I was so excited and I jumped into the car.
“Come on Mum, hurry up!”
We got to school, 15 minutes later Mrs P said “We have to pull the plug!.................there was total silence, disbelief!
That was soooooo GUTTING and now I am at school pushing a pen.
How gutting is that????
Josh M

I
got up at 5.45, dragged myself out of bed and got ready for skiing.
I arrived at school in the rain and then Mrs P says “We are pulling the plug, we are not going!”
I got angry, was tired and disappointed because we couldn’t go and that we had to get up that early.
The good thing things though are that I got a good big lunch and that we had a DVD day!
Dorian

I went to school so excited, BUT when I got to school Mrs P was ringing the Rainbow ski field. She decided to “pull the plug!” I was so disappointed!
Luke

My alarm goes off at 5.50am and I jump with a fright. Then I remember something – today was the day when the Year 7 and 8’s are going up to the Rainbow Ski field for a fun day of skiing.
I listen to the rain pouring on the roof and cross my fingers that it will clear up. Then I get the text I was wanting. The ski field was open!
I got all my gear together and get ready to go to school this early morning.
When Dad and I arrived at school it is still raining but not as hard as it was before.
Everyone goes in to the hall and then Mrs P disappears! She then reappeared and had some bad news.
“Sorry guys but it is really rough up the mountain so unfortunately we won’t be going skiing!”
Everyone sighed!
We were all annoyed and sad!
By Hayley

I got up at 5.00 in the morning got my bag packed for skiing. Then at quarter past six I went into Mot and got some lunch. At half past six I got a txt saying skiing was on and I got my hopes up. When I got to school mrs Puffet told us that she had pulled the plug on skiing and tthat made me furious
Darrian

I
woke up so excited and energetic, I couldn’t wait for the day, we were going skiing!
We had all the Barbie and Mamma Mia CDs ready for us to sing on the car ride up the mountain and chocolate of course. But when we got to school at 7:15 this morning we were told that we had to pull the plug because of the weather. We were guttered, is sucked so much I had been looking forward to this day for a billion years. So now we have to sing and dance around in our ski gear in the class room

R.I.P class skiing trip 2008.

By Meila

Today we were meant to go skiing but the weather decided to throw a paddy.
This morning when we did the texting tree I felt so excited because I had never skied before.
So when Mrs P said “I’m sorry kids but we have to pull the plug”, I felt like a ton of bricks had been dumped on top of me. I was so disappointed!!
Natalie

It was 6:35 and I just got the text from Jaydene saying “Rainbow is open YAY!!” I was so happy I jumped out of bed and put on my gear and loaded up my bag. I was excited I was rushing around the house like a lunatic, then my mum dropped me off at school and Mrs P told us that we weren’t going skiing and my smile turned upside down, we were so bummed out.
Sharnai

Today I woke up with excitement. It was a day that was going to be full of joy and happiness. I was ready in like a tick I was in the car ready to go and enjoy myself. When I arrived basically half of everyone was there. As Mrs. P walked in and said sorry guys I knew what she had to say. My gosh the happiness in me sank to the bottom of my foot I was so saddd…but oh well we are having a movie day today so I hope that my happiness will be okay!!
By Te Koha Edwards

I woke up at 5.45 with my alarm ringing in my ear. I had breakfast, got ready with my heart racing. I got the txt saying it is open. “Yay!” I forward the text. I get to school at 7.15 with everyone excited and all their gear ready. We hear Mrs P coming and she says “We have got to pull the plug! I’m sorry but the weather is horrible up there.”
I felt absolutely broken and was guttered! I had been waiting for this day!

Fabulous Art work

This art work was created by the talented artists of Room 8, after studying Fatu Veu'u. We based our pieces on the sea or the bush. Don't they look great?

Staying Alive

Here we are practising our dance for our production "Grandads Surprise!" It was just before the dress rehearsal so we are all in our costumes! The dance was called Staying Alive. In the 2nd picture we are looking staunch! It was a lot of fun!
